EIA’s report reveals bigger-than-forecast drop in U.S. crude oil inventories

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) revealed on Wednesday that crude inventories decreased by 6.912 million barrels in the week ended September 6. Economists had forecast a drop of 2.900 million barrels.

At the same time, gasoline stocks reduced by 0.682 million barrels, while analysts had expected a decline of 1.000 million barrels. Distillate stocks rose by 2.704 million barrels, while analysts had forecast a decrease of 0.900 million barrels.

Meanwhile, oil production in the U.S. was unchanged at 12.400 million barrels a day.

U.S. crude oil imports averaged 6.7 million barrels per day last week, down by 180,000 barrels per day from the previous week.
