The European
Commission (EC) said on Thursday its flash estimate showed the consumer
confidence indicator for the Eurozone rose by 0.3 points to -14.7 in August from
an unrevised -15.0 in the previous month.
Economists had expected the index to remain at -15.0.
Considering the
European Union (EU) as a whole, consumer sentiment improved by 0.1 points to -15.5.
Despite this
month’s gains, both indicators remained well below their long-term averages of
-11.1 (Eurozone) and -10.5 (EU).
