IMF raises 2021 global growth forecast to 5.5 percent from 5.2 percent in October forecast
Projects 2022 global growth of 4.1 percent
Estimates 2020 global growth contraction at -3.5 percent, 0.9 percentage point higher than projected in its previous forecast
Says renewed waves and new variants of the virus pose "exceptional uncertainty" about the outlook
Notes that strength of recovery is seen to vary significantly across countries, depending on access to medical interventions, effectiveness of policy support, exposure to cross-country spillovers, and structural characteristics entering the crisis
Forecasts global trade volumes to grow about 8 percent in 2021, before moderating to 6 percent in 2022, following a 9.6 percent decline in 2020
Sees U.S. growth of 5.1 percent in 2021 (up from 3.1 percent seen in October) and 2.5 percent in 2022 (down from 2.9 percent in October)
Sees China's growth of 8.1 percent in 2021 (down from 8.2 percent in October) and 5.6 percent in 2022 (up from 5.8 percent in October)."
