Polish equity market plunged on Monday. The broad market measure, the WIG Index, declined by 0.74%. From a sector perspective, chemicals (-2.27%) fared the worst, while construction sector (+0.85%) was the best-performing group.
The large-cap companies' measure, the WIG30 Index, lost 1.14%. Only three index constituents managed to generate positive returns: footwear retailer CCC (WSE: CCC) gained 4.17%, FMCG-wholesaler EUROCASH (WSE: EUR) advanced 1.86%, oil and gas producer PGNIG (WSE: PGN) added 1.01%. At the same time, the session's biggest loser was chemical company SYNTHOS (WSE: SNS), which tumbled by 5.28%. It was followed by coking coal producer JSW (WSE: JSW), which slumped by 3.92% after the company announced write-downs of PLN 2.8 bln in Q4 FY 2015 due to the loss of value of some of its coal assets.
