Eurozone consumer confidence improves more than anticipated in May

The European Commission (EC) reported on Friday its flash estimate showed the consumer confidence indicator for the Eurozone rose by 3.0 points to -5.1 in May from an unrevised -8.1 in the previous month. This was the highest reading since October 2018.

Economists had expected the index to increase to -6.8.

Considering the European Union (EU) as a whole, consumer sentiment also improved by 3.0 points to -6.0.

Given this month’s gains, the Eurozone’s measure is slightly above its pre-pandemic level, while EU’s indicator is back to its pre-pandemic level.
